San Bernardino City Unified prepares to open two schools

A new high school and an elementary school will open in August in the San Bernardino City Unified School district that pay homage to a local Native American tribal gathering spot and a hometown hero.
Indian Springs High School and Norton Elementary School will serve 2,700 and 800 students, respectively. The schools will open for the first day of the 2012-2013 school year on Aug. 1, the first day of classes for students on the modified traditional calendars.
Indian Springs, the district’s ninth high school, is at the former Curtis Middle School site, at 650 N. Del Rosa Drive in San Bernardino. The campus is initially opening with freshman and sophomores, with upper grades added in subsequent years.
